Daniel Hendler is a highly acclaimed Uruguayan film, television, and theatre actor, as well as a director and screenwriter, born on January 3, 1976, in Montevideo. He is a prominent figure on both sides of the Río de la Plata, working extensively in the cinema of Argentina and Uruguay. Hendler first gained attention with the film 25 Watts (2001) and is particularly known for his frequent collaborations with Argentine director Daniel Burman, often playing an alter ego of the director named "Ariel" in films such as Waiting for the Messiah (Esperando al Mesías) (2000) and Family Law (Derecho de familia) (2006). His international breakthrough came with Burman's Lost Embrace (El abrazo partido) (2004), for which he won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival. Other notable acting roles include Bottom of the Sea (El fondo del mar) (2003) and the popular Argentine telenovela Graduados (2012), which earned him both a Tato Award and a Martín Fierro Award for Best Actor. Hendler also transitioned successfully behind the camera, making his debut as a screenwriter and director with the film Norberto's Deadline (Norberto apenas tarde) (2010), and later directing films like The Candidate (El Candidato) (2016) and the recently premiered A Loose End (2025).
