David Carradine
David Carradine (born John Arthur Carradine Jr.; December 8, 1936 – June 3, 2009) was an acclaimed and highly prolific American actor, director, and producer whose career spanned over four decades, encompassing more than 200 roles in film and television. The eldest child of legendary actor John Carradine, he rose to international fame for his iconic starring role as Kwai Chang Caine, a contemplative, martial-arts-trained Shaolin monk traveling through the American Old West, in the highly popular 1970s television series Kung Fu (1972–1975), a role he later reprised in the 1990s sequel series.Beyond television, Carradine had a diverse film career that included critically acclaimed work, such as his Golden Globe-nominated performance as folk singer Woody Guthrie in Hal Ashby’s biopic Bound for Glory (1976), and collaborations with major directors like Martin Scorsese in Boxcar Bertha (1972) and Ingmar Bergman in The Serpent's Egg (1977). In his later career, he gained renewed international prominence and earned a Golden Globe nomination for his unforgettable title role as Bill (code name "Snake Charmer")—the manipulative and philosophical leader of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad and the ultimate target of Uma Thurman's character, The Bride—in Quentin Tarantino's two-part masterpiece, Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004). Carradine also authored an autobiography, Endless Highway, and a personal journal about his time on the set of Tarantino’s film, The Kill Bill Diary.
