Demetri Martin

Demetri Martin is an American comedian, actor, writer, director, cartoonist, and musician known for his distinctively deadpan delivery and his unique, highly structured style of stand-up comedy that often incorporates one-liners, drawings on a large pad, and music played on various instruments, including the guitar, harmonica, or glockenspiel. Born in New York City in 1973 to a Greek-American family and raised in New Jersey, he initially pursued a highly academic path, graduating from Yale University and attending New York University School of Law on a full scholarship before dropping out during his second year to pursue comedy. His career break came in 2003 when he won the prestigious Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for his show If I, leading to work as a writer for Late Night with Conan O'Brien (2003–2004) and later as a popular contributor, the "Senior Youth Correspondent," on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (2005–2014). Martin also created and starred in his own Comedy Central series, Important Things with Demetri Martin (2009–2010), and has released several critically acclaimed stand-up specials and comedy albums, including These Are Jokes and Netflix specials like The Overthinker. Beyond stand-up, he is widely recognized for his voice acting role as Ice Bear in the Cartoon Network animated series "We Bare Bears" and its spin-off, and he wrote, directed, and starred in the 2016 feature film Dean.
