Demián Bichir

Demián Bichir Nájera (born August 1, 1963, in Mexico City, Mexico) is an acclaimed Mexican actor known for his extensive work in both Mexican and American film and television. He comes from a renowned theatrical family; his parents are theater director Alejandro Bichir and actress Maricruz Nájera, and his brothers, Odiseo and Bruno, are also actors. Bichir began his career at a young age, appearing in a Mexican soap opera when he was fourteen. He has since become one of the most respected actors in Mexico, earning an Ariel Award for Best Actor for the film Hasta Morir (1994). His career in the United States took off with roles such as Fidel Castro in Steven Soderbergh's film Che (2008) and Esteban Carlos Reyes in the Showtime series Weeds (2008–2010). Bichir received international recognition and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his leading role as an undocumented gardener in the film A Better Life (2011). He continued his work in American productions with roles in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (2015), Alien: Covenant (2017), and the TV series The Bridge (2013–2014) and Let the Right One In (2022). He is also a director and writer, making his directorial debut with A Circus Story & A Love Song. Bichir has served as an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Ambassador for Immigrants' Rights. He was married to Stefanie Sherk until her death in 2019, and he has a daughter, Gala.
