Dennis Haysbert
Dennis Dexter Haysbert is a distinguished American actor celebrated for his commanding presence, rich baritone voice, and a career spanning over four decades in film, television, and advertising. Born on June 2, 1954, in San Mateo, California, the 6'5" actor initially excelled in athletics but chose to pursue his passion for performance at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He first garnered widespread recognition in 1989 for his comedic turn as the voodoo-practicing baseball player Pedro Cerrano in the cult classic Major League, a role he reprised in two sequels. Throughout the 1990s, he established himself as a versatile supporting actor in critically acclaimed films such as Michael Mann’s crime epic Heat (1995), the political thriller Absolute Power (1997), and the romantic drama Love & Basketball (2000). Haysbert’s career reached new heights in the early 2000s when he was cast as Senator (and later President) David Palmer in the groundbreaking series 24. His portrayal of Palmer was so influential that it earned him a Golden Globe nomination and is often cited as a cultural precursor to the election of the first Black U.S. President. Following his tenure on 24, he starred as Sergeant Major Jonas Blane in the military drama The Unit (2006–2009) and later joined the cast of Lucifer as God. Beyond his dramatic roles, he is a familiar voice to millions as the official spokesperson for Allstate Insurance, famous for the tagline, "Are you in good hands?" In 2026, he adds to his extensive filmography by appearing in Sam Raimi’s survival thriller Send Help, continuing his legacy as one of Hollywood's most reliable and authoritative screen presences.
