Rashmika Ellora Torchia is a highly versatile British actress, born in Hammersmith, West London, in April 1992. With a richly diverse background—having a South African-Indian mother and an Italian father, and spending her formative years living in countries like Sri Lanka, India, Turkey, Tunisia, and Japan before returning to London at age 13—her global upbringing instilled in her a strong adaptability that has been instrumental in her career. She is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Acting in 2014. Torchia is known for seamlessly transitioning between high-profile film, television, and stage roles. Her breakthrough film role was playing the traveler Connie in Ari Aster's acclaimed folk horror film, Midsommar (2019). She received a British Independent Film Award nomination for Breakthrough Performance for her starring role as Alma in Ben Wheatley's 2021 sci-fi horror film, In the Earth. On television, she is recognized for roles as Maggie Lavelle in the legal drama The Split, Sita in the historical drama Indian Summers, and more recently as Sienna Rose in the BBC miniseries The Gold, and Kat in season two of the HBO fantasy series House of the Dragon. An active theatre performer, she has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and at Shakespeare's Globe. Torchia was named a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit and a Screen International Star of Tomorrow in 2021. She is also set to play the role of Abigail in the upcoming sci-fi comedy horror film Cold Storage (2026).
