Emile Hirsch

Emile Davenport Hirsch is an acclaimed American actor born on March 13, 1985, in Palms, California. He began his acting career in the late 1990s with appearances on television shows like Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and NYPD Blue, before making his feature film debut in the 2002 drama The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. Hirsch quickly established himself as a versatile young talent, gaining recognition for roles in films such as the comedy The Girl Next Door (2004) and the biographical drama Lords of Dogtown (2005), where he played the real-life skateboarder Jay Adams. His breakthrough role, which earned him widespread critical acclaim and multiple award nominations, was portraying the real-life adventurer Christopher McCandless in Sean Penn's 2007 film Into the Wild, a role for which he dramatically lost 40 pounds. He followed this success by starring as the titular hero in the Wachowskis' film adaptation of Speed Racer (2008) and playing activist Cleve Jones opposite Sean Penn in the biopic Milk (2008). Later notable roles include the coroner Austin Tilden in the horror film The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), Navy SEAL Danny Dietz in the war film Lone Survivor (2013), and Hollywood hairdresser Jay Sebring in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). Hirsch has also done extensive voice work as Jim Lake Jr. in the animated Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia franchise.
