Emma Mackey
Emma Mackey, born Emma Margaret Marie Tachard-Mackey on January 4, 1996, in Le Mans, France, is a French-British actress who has quickly risen to prominence in both television and film. The daughter of a French father and an English mother, she spent her childhood in Sablé-sur-Sarthe before moving to England to study English Language and Literature at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2016. Mackey achieved her breakthrough as the quick-witted and rebellious Maeve Wiley in the critically acclaimed Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education (2019–2023), a role that earned her a British Academy Television Award nomination. Following this success, she transitioned into major film roles, starring as Jacqueline de Bellefort in the mystery Death on the Nile (2022), taking the lead role as the novelist in the biographical drama Emily (2022)—for which she won the Best Performance Award at the Dinard British Film Festival—and notably playing "Physicist Barbie" in Greta Gerwig's blockbuster Barbie (2023). For her overall body of work, she was honored with the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2023.
