Alpha 2025
"Alpha," a 2025 French body horror drama, is written and directed by Julia Ducournau, known for her previous works "Raw" and "Titane." The film stars Mélissa Boros as the titular Alpha, a troubled 13-year-old girl, alongside Golshifteh Farahani as her single mother and Tahar Rahim as her uncle, Amin. The story is set against the backdrop of a mysterious bloodborne disease that slowly turns its sufferers to marble, a clear allegory for the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s. The narrative unfolds as Alpha returns home with a fresh tattoo, sparking her mother's fear that she might have contracted the lethal illness.
