Ethan Slater is an American actor and singer, best known for his work in musical theater. Born on June 2, 1992, in Washington, D.C., he is an alumnus of Vassar College. He rose to prominence for originating the title role of SpongeBob SquarePants in The SpongeBob Musical on Broadway, for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical and won a Drama Desk Award in 2018.Following his notable Broadway debut, Slater has appeared in various stage productions, including playing The Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald in the Off-Broadway revival of Assassins and multiple roles in the 2023–2024 Broadway revival of Spamalot.Slater transitioned to major film roles with the musical film adaptations of Wicked, in which he plays the character Boq Woodsman. He appears in the two-part film, Wicked (2024) and the upcoming sequel Wicked: For Good (2025). His television credits include roles in shows like Fosse/Verdon, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and, most recently, a role in the second season of Gen V. As a multifaceted artist, he is also a writer and composer, with a number of projects in development.
