Wicked: For Good 2025
The film, Wicked: For Good, serves as the second part of the musical fantasy adaptation, picking up one year after the first film's events. Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo), now demonized as the "Wicked Witch of the West" by Madame Morrible's propaganda, lives as a fugitive fighting for Animal rights, while Glinda Upland (Ariana Grande) has become the celebrated "Glinda the Good," spokesperson for the deceitful Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum) and preparing for a public engagement to Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), who is now Captain of the Gale Force searching for Elphaba. The plot covers Elphaba's journey to embracing her "wickedness" and the dramatic conclusion of her friendship with Glinda. Key events include Elphaba's visit to her sister Nessarose (Marissa Bode), which leads to Boq (Ethan Slater) being accidentally transformed into the Tin Man; Elphaba and Fiyero finally professing their love, followed by Fiyero sacrificing himself to save Elphaba, who then transforms him into the Scarecrow; the arrival of Dorothy and her house, which fatally crushes Nessarose; and the final, tearful confrontation where Elphaba fakes her death by "melting" to protect Glinda and escape Oz with Fiyero (as the Scarecrow). Glinda then uses the truth about the Wizard being Elphaba's father to expose him and Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), taking leadership of Oz and maintaining the myth of the Wicked Witch to safeguard her friend's freedom, setting the stage for the traditional The Wizard of Oz story. The main cast features returning stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, alongside Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), Ethan Slater (Boq), and Marissa Bode (Nessarose). Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film generally received positive audience scores (around 95-97% CinemaScore/Popcornmeter), though critical reviews were somewhat more mixed compared to the first part, holding a 67-71% on Rotten Tomatoes. At the box office, it proved to be a major commercial success, with an estimated domestic opening weekend of around $150-$163 million and a projected global total in the range of $950 million or more, making it one of the top-grossing films of 2025.As for streaming, based on typical theatrical windows for Universal films, it is reportedly expected to arrive on the Peacock streaming service in the US and potentially on international platforms like Jio Hotstar in India in early 2026, approximately four to five months after its November 2025 theatrical release date.

After all of the audio cuts from the trailers that had me SO looking forward to entire numbers, I daresay it landed flat for me. I wanted to be gut-wrenched during and after this film but I just wasn't. There wasn't enough tension build-up to release during For Good and unfortunately I was underwhelmed by the delivery. I left the theater unmoved by the supporting cast performances. Act II is known to be the weaker act for the stage version, but the film had an opportunity to deliver better pacing and fuller picture. The plot points that feel rushed on stage felt rushed in the move as well. Overall, the film kept my interest and boasts stunning optics, but doesn't touch the level of masterpiece or re-watchability part one had.
