Kerry Ellis is a highly acclaimed English actress and singer, often referred to as the "First Lady of West End musicals," known for her powerful vocal talent and successful crossover into music. Born on May 6, 1979, in Suffolk, she trained at Laine Theatre Arts.Ellis began her professional stage career in 1998, making her West End debut in the 2001 revival of My Fair Lady as an understudy for Eliza Doolittle. She rose to prominence by originating the role of Meat in the original London cast of Queen's musical We Will Rock You (2002–2004). Her career-defining role came when she became the first British actress to play Elphaba in the West End production of Wicked, a role she later took to Broadway, winning a Broadway.com Audience Award for Favourite Female Breakthrough Performance.Her extensive list of leading theatre credits includes Fantine in Les Misérables, Nancy in Oliver!, Grizabella in Cats, Ellen in Miss Saigon, and Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes.Beyond the stage, Ellis has a strong career as a solo recording artist, often collaborating with Queen guitarist Sir Brian May. Their partnership began when May discovered her during her run in My Fair Lady. She has released four studio albums, including the chart-topping Anthems (2010), and regularly tours worldwide with both her solo shows and with May.
