The son of renowned comedian and actor Freddie Prinze, he began his acting career in the mid-1990s after graduating from high school. He quickly rose to prominence as a teen heartthrob in the late 1990s, becoming widely recognized for his roles in popular teen films. His breakthrough came with the slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and its sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), where he starred alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar, whom he later married in 2002.
