Himesh Patel is a British actor known for his diverse roles in television and film. Born on October 13, 1990, in Sawtry, Cambridgeshire, England, Patel hails from a Gujarati Hindu family; his mother was born in Zambia, and his father in Kenya. He grew up speaking Gujarati and attended Prince William School in Oundle, Northamptonshire. At age 11, Patel began performing in school plays, and by 16, he was cast as Tamwar Masood in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, a role he held from 2007 to 2016. After EastEnders, Patel expanded his career with roles in the Channel 4 sitcom Damned (2016–2018) and the HBO miniseries Station Eleven (2021), earning a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie . His film debut came with Danny Boyle's Yesterday (2019), where he portrayed Jack Malik, a struggling musician who becomes the world's only person to remember The Beatles.
