Iko Uwais, born Uwais Qorny on February 12, 1983, in Jakarta, Indonesia, is a renowned actor, martial artist, stuntman, and fight choreographer. Raised in a family with a rich martial arts heritage—his grandfather, H. Achmad Bunawar, was a silat master—Uwais began training in silat at the age of 10. He later became a national champion in the silat demonstration category in 2005. Uwais's breakthrough in the film industry came in 2009 when he starred in Merantau, directed by Gareth Evans, who discovered Uwais while filming a documentary about silat. This collaboration marked the beginning of a successful partnership, leading to Uwais's iconic roles in The Raid (2011) and its sequel The Raid 2 (2014), both of which showcased his exceptional martial arts skills and garnered international acclaim. Beyond his work in Indonesia, Uwais has expanded his reach in Hollywood with notable performances in films such as Mile 22 (2018), Stuber (2019), and Snake Eyes (2021). He also starred in the Netflix series Wu Assassins (2019–2022) and its follow-up film Fistful of Vengeance (2022). In 2023, Uwais appeared in the sci-fi thriller Ash, directed by Flying Lotus, alongside Aaron Paul, Eiza González, Beulah Koale, and Kate Elliott. Additionally, he joined the cast of Expend4bles, released in 2023. In January 2025, Uwais announced the launch of his film production company, Uwais Pictures, with plans to direct and star in Timur, a dramatization of the Mapenduma hostage crisis. Outside of his film career, Uwais is married to singer Audy Item, and they have two daughters, Atreya Syahla Putri Uwais and Aneska Layla Putri Uwais .
