Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson, often known by her nickname J.Hud, is an American singer, actress, producer, and television host who rose to prominence as a finalist on the third season of American Idol in 2004, where she placed seventh. Despite her early elimination, her career rapidly launched with her breakout role as Effie White in the 2006 film adaptation of the musical Dreamgirls, which earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Golden Globe, making her one of the few actors to win an Oscar for a film debut. She has since achieved the rare status of an EGOT winner, having collected all four major American entertainment awards: the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Her Grammys include Best R&B Album for her self-titled debut in 2009 and Best Musical Theater Album for the Broadway revival of The Color Purple in 2017. She completed her EGOT in 2022 by winning a Tony Award as a producer for the musical A Strange Loop and previously won a Daytime Emmy for executive producing the animated short Baba Yaga in 2021. In addition to her major roles, which include portraying Aretha Franklin in the biopic Respect (2021), she has served as a coach on both the US and UK versions of The Voice and currently hosts her own daytime talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show.
