Jessie Buckley
Jessie Buckley is a critically acclaimed Irish actress and singer, born in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, on December 28, 1989. Her career trajectory began unexpectedly in 2008 when she was the runner-up on the BBC reality TV talent show I'd Do Anything, a competition to cast the lead role of Nancy in a West End revival of Oliver!. Following this exposure, she chose to pursue formal training and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2013. Buckley quickly established herself as a versatile performer, gaining early recognition in BBC television productions like War & Peace (2016) and Taboo (2017), and in HBO's miniseries Chernobyl (2019) and the fourth season of Fargo (2020). Her film career broke through with the psychological thriller Beast (2017) and the musical drama Wild Rose (2018), which earned her a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She has since received high praise for her work in films such as I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020), Men (2022), and Women Talking (2022), but her role as Young Leda in The Lost Daughter (2021) brought her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. On stage, she won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Sally Bowles in a 2021 West End revival of Cabaret. Most recently, Buckley starred as Agnes Shakespeare in the 2025 historical drama film Hamnet.
