Jimmy O. Yang is a Hong Kong-American actor, stand-up comedian, writer, and producer, born Au-yeung Man-sing on June 11, 1987, in Hong Kong. He immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 13, settling in Los Angeles. Yang graduated from the University of California, San Diego, with a degree in economics in 2009, but was inspired to pursue comedy after his commencement speech was given by his future Silicon Valley showrunner, Mike Judge. He began his career on the stand-up circuit, initially doing sets for free and working various jobs like DJing and selling used cars to support himself. His acting career began with small television roles before his breakout as the perpetually scheming coder Jian-Yang in the HBO comedy series SiliconValley (2014-2019), a role that launched him into the mainstream. His film career highlights include playing the millionaire playboy Bernard Tai in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful romantic comedy CrazyRichAsians (2018), the heroic carjacking victim Dun "Danny" Meng in the dramatic film PatriotsDay (2016), and the romantic lead Josh Lin in the Netflix rom-com LoveHard (2021). He also starred as Dr. Chan Kaifang in the Netflix series SpaceForce (2020-2022), where he also served as a writer. As a writer, Yang is the author of the memoir How to American: An Immigrant's Guide to Disappointing Your Parents, which details his journey and the pursuit of a Hollywood career against his parents' wishes, a theme he explores extensively in his stand-up. He has released two Amazon Prime stand-up specials, Good Deal and Guess How Much?, and is a founding member of Crab Club Inc., a production company focused on fostering diverse voices. He is also slated to star as the lead in the Hulu series Interior Chinatown.
