Joel McHale is an American actor, comedian, television presenter, and producer, widely recognized for his sharp wit and comedic timing. Born on November 20, 1971, in Rome, Italy, to an American father and Canadian mother, McHale grew up in the Seattle, Washington, area. He attended Mercer Island High School and went on to the University of Washington, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1995 and later an MFA from the Professional Actors Training Program. During his college years, he was briefly a walk-on tight end for the University of Washington's football team.McHale's career took off with his hosting role on E!'s satirical weekly television show, "The Soup," from 2004 to 2015, where he provided humorous commentary on pop culture and reality television. This exposure made him a familiar face and led to his most iconic acting role as Jeff Winger on the critically acclaimed NBC sitcom "Community" (2009-2015).
