Joshua "Josh" Mathias O'Connor is an acclaimed English actor, born on May 20, 1990, in Southampton, England, and raised in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He is the middle son of three boys; his father, John, is a teacher and his mother, Emily, is a midwife. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating in 2011. O'Connor had his breakthrough in 2017 when he starred as the lead, a closeted sheep farmer named Johnny Saxby, in Francis Lee's romantic drama "God's Own Country," a role for which he won the British Independent Film Award (BIFA) for Best Actor. He achieved global recognition for his portrayal of a young Prince Charles in the third and fourth seasons of the Netflix series "The Crown" (2019-2020), a performance that earned him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama in 2021. His other notable roles include Larry Durrell in the ITV series "The Durrells" (2016–2019), Mr. Elton in the film Emma (2020), and Patrick Zweig in the romantic sports film Challengers (2024).
