
Julia Max
Julia Max is an American director, writer, and producer known for her work in indie horror. An LA native, she graduated from USC. Her filmography includes a series of short films such as the sci-fi short "The Colonies" (2015), the unsettling "Distortion" (2016), and the haunting "Pieces of Me" (2020), the latter of which premiered at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and gained over a million views on ALTER's streaming platform. Her feature directorial debut, "The Surrender" (2025), a psychological and supernatural horror-drama, premiered at SXSW 2025 and was released for streaming in certain regions in May 2025. "The Surrender" is a deeply personal film for Max, drawing inspiration from a death in her family and exploring themes of grief, trauma, and family bonds, with a narrative that blends emotional drama with body horror. She has received one award and seven nominations for her work.
