Julie Dreyfus

Julie Dreyfus is a French actress, born on January 24, 1966, in Paris, who is notably recognized for her strong ties to Japanese media and her collaborations with American filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. Fluent in French, English, German, and Japanese, Dreyfus became a prominent "gaijin tarento" (foreign talent) in Japan, where she made her television debut in the late 1980s as a French language instructor on NHK's educational channel. She gained further fame in Japan as a taster and guest judge on the cult-hit cooking show, Ryōri no Tetsujin (known in the West as Iron Chef). To international audiences, she is best known for her memorable appearances in two of Quentin Tarantino's films: as Sofie Fatale—the devoted, chain-smoking lawyer and second-in-command to O-Ren Ishii—in Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), and as Francesca Mondino, the fictional French interpreter and mistress of Joseph Goebbels, in the World War II epic Inglourious Basterds (2009). Beyond her work with Tarantino, her filmography includes roles in Japanese films like Rampo (1994) and other international productions such as Vinyan (2008).
