Kevin Michael Richardson
Born on October 25, 1964, in the Bronx, New York, Kevin Michael Richardson is one of the most prolific and recognizable voice actors in the entertainment industry, celebrated for his distinctively deep, resonant bass voice. The son of Jamaican immigrant parents, Richardson discovered his passion for performance at a young age, eventually earning a scholarship to Syracuse University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program. His professional career began in the early 1990s with live-action roles and commercials, but his unique vocal range quickly made him a staple in animation and video games. He made history in 2004 as the first Black actor to voice The Joker in the animated series The Batman, a role that earned him two Daytime Emmy Award nominations. Throughout his decades-long career, Richardson has voiced hundreds of iconic characters, ranging from the intimidating Captain Gantu in Disney's Lilo & Stitch and the demonic Trigon in Teen Titans to comedic roles like Principal Brian Lewis on American Dad! and Jerome on Family Guy. He is also known for his work in major film franchises, providing the voice for Goro in the original 1995 Mortal Kombat and Deus Ex Machina in The Matrix Revolutions. In 2021, he took over the role of Dr. Hibbert on The Simpsons, further cementing his status as a legendary vocal chameleon. In the Nintendo cinematic universe, he voices Kamek, Bowser’s loyal Magikoopa advisor, in both The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) and the upcoming 2026 sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
