Leila Naghdipari is a highly regarded Iranian set and costume designer, art director, and occasional writer and director, born in Tehran in 1973. She graduated with a degree in Painting Studies, initially focusing on plastic arts as a writer and critic in the Iranian press, participating in collective exhibitions, and creating video art.Her career in cinema and television began with art direction, stage, and costume design. She has an extensive filmography as a costume designer and production designer, contributing to numerous Iranian films including "Parviz" (2012), "A Very Ordinary Citizen" (2015), Jafar Panahi's "3 Faces" (2018), "Yalda: A Night for Forgiveness" (2019), and "The Rain Falls Where It Will" (2020). She has also designed stages for over 20 opening and closing ceremonies of film festivals in Iran. Naghdipari has also ventured into writing and directing, with credits for short films and a documentary about sculptor Parviz Tanavoli.In September 2023, Naghdipari gained international attention when she was arrested in Iran during protests marking the first anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death. Her arrest sparked calls for her immediate and unconditional release from prominent figures and organizations in the film industry, including director Jafar Panahi, the European Film Academy, and the International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk. She has since been released.
