Martin James Pflieger Schienle, professionally known as Martin Starr, is an American actor and comedian recognized for his distinctive roles in cult classic television and major comedy films. Born on July 30, 1982, in Santa Monica, California, Starr's career breakthrough came with the critically acclaimed, yet short-lived, comedy-drama series Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000), where he played the deadpan, perpetually sweater-clad student Bill Haverchuck. Following the show's cancellation, he struggled for a few years but eventually reunited with Freaks and Geeks producer Judd Apatow and co-stars in several successful comedy films, including Knocked Up (2007) and Superbad (2007), cementing his status in the "Apatow-verse" of comedy.Starr is also highly celebrated for his main cast roles on two other acclaimed comedy series: the sarcastic caterer Roman DeBeers on Party Down (2009–2010, and a 2023 revival), and the cynical, server-obsessed programmer Bertram Gilfoyle on the HBO series Silicon Valley (2014–2019). Beyond comedy, he has entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Roger Harrington, Peter Parker's high school teacher, appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). More recently, he took on the role of Lawrence "Bodhi" Geigerman, the owner of a weed store, in the Paramount+ crime drama series Tulsa King (2022–). Known for his dry delivery and knack for playing quirky, often brilliant characters, Starr has maintained a prolific career across film and television.
