Mary Catherine McCormack is an American actress born on February 8, 1969, in Plainfield, New Jersey, who graduated from Trinity College in 1991. An accomplished performer on stage and screen, she began her career in New York theater before transitioning to television and film. Her early breakthrough on television came with a starring role as Justine Appleton on the drama series Murder One (1995–1997), and she achieved notable film exposure playing Alison Stern in the 1997 movie Private Parts. McCormack is widely recognized for her key television roles as Deputy National Security Advisor Kate Harper on The West Wing (2004–2006) and as the title character, Deputy U.S. Marshal Mary Shannon, on the series In Plain Sight (2008–2012). Her diverse career also includes a Tony Award nomination for her Broadway performance in Boeing-Boeing (2008) and roles in films such as Deep Impact (1998), True Crime (1999), and 1408 (2007). More recently, she starred in the sitcom The Kids Are Alright (2018–2019) and the drama series Heels (2021–2023). She married director and producer Michael Morris in 2003, and they have three children together.
