Vicious 2025

Written and directed by Bryan Bertino, Vicious (2025) is a harrowing psychological horror film that stars Dakota Fanning as Polly, a woman living a stagnant and isolated life in a house owned by her sister, Lainie. The narrative is set in motion when a mysterious, unidentified elderly woman (Kathryn Hunter) appears at Polly’s door late at night, gifting her an enigmatic wooden box and an hourglass with a chilling ultimatum: Polly will die before the sand runs out unless she offers the box three specific things—something she hates, something she needs, and something she loves. As the night descends into a surreal nightmare, Polly is besieged by malevolent apparitions and forced into gruesome acts of self-mutilation, including sacrificing a toe and a finger to satisfy the box's demands. The film explores deep themes of generational trauma and internal decay, culminating in a bleak conclusion where Polly realizes the only way to survive is to "pass the curse on," leading her to force the box upon her neighbor, Tara (Devyn Nekoda). The supporting cast features Mary McCormack as Polly’s mother, Rachel Blanchard as her sister, and Emily Mitchell as her niece, Aly.
