Matt Shakman is a highly regarded American director and former child actor, known for his diverse work across film, television, and theatre. Born in Ventura, California, he began his career as a child actor, appearing in numerous TV shows like "Just the Ten of Us" (a "Growing Pains" spin-off), "The Facts of Life," and "Diff'rent Strokes." After a break to attend Yale University, where he double-majored in art history and theater and was a member of Skull and Bones, Shakman transitioned to directing.Since 2002, he has become a prolific television director, helming episodes of critically acclaimed series such as "Mad Men," "Six Feet Under," "Fargo," "Game of Thrones" (earning a DGA nomination), "Succession," "The Boys," and over a decade of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," where he also served as an executive producer. His work on Marvel Studios' "WandaVision" (2021) as director and executive producer garnered widespread acclaim, including Emmy nominations for Directing for a Limited Series and Best Limited Series.Beyond television, Shakman has also directed for the stage, serving as the artistic director of the Black Dahlia Theatre in Los Angeles and later the Geffen Playhouse. His upcoming major project is directing "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" for Marvel Studios, set to release in 2025, which will introduce Marvel's First Family into the MCU with a unique 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic setting. He has also directed episodes for "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," "The Consultant," and "Welcome to Chippendales" in recent years.
