Matthias Brandt
Matthias Brandt is a highly recognized German actor, audiobook narrator, and writer, born on October 7, 1961, in West Berlin. He is known for his extensive career, having appeared in more than seventy films and television productions since 1989. After completing his studies in Hanover, he worked at prestigious theaters in German-speaking countries before focusing primarily on film and television. Brandt is the youngest son of the former German Chancellor Willy Brandt. His notable screen roles include Chief Inspector Hanns von Meuffels in the crime series Polizeiruf 110 from 2011 to 2018, August Benda in the series Babylon Berlin (2017), and the role of Helmut in Christian Petzold's 2023 film Afire (Roter Himmel). He has received numerous awards for his acting, including the Günter-Rohrbach-Preis for his performance in Roter Himmel in 2023. Brandt has also had a literary career, publishing his first collection of short stories, Raumpatrouille, in 2016, and his debut novel, Blackbird, in 2019. He was also credited as starring in the 2025 Christian Petzold film Miroirs No. 3.
