Megumi Hayashibara

Megumi Hayashibara, born March 30, 1967, in Kita, Tokyo, is a highly distinguished Japanese voice actress, singer, lyricist, and radio personality affiliated with Woodpark Office. Although she qualified as a nurse, she chose to focus on voice acting after a successful audition in 1986, debuting with small roles in Maison Ikkoku before landing major roles that would define the 1990s anime boom. She is renowned for her incredible vocal range, lending her voice to countless iconic characters, including the stoic Rei Ayanami in Neon Genesis Evangelion, the fiery sorceress Lina Inverse in Slayers, the female half of Ranma Saotome in Ranma ½, the enigmatic Ai Haibara in Detective Conan, Jessie (Musashi) in Pokémon, and Faye Valentine in Cowboy Bebop. Concurrently, her music career flourished, with her performing theme songs for many of the anime she starred in and releasing multiple solo albums. She is also a recognized author, publishing her memoir, The Characters Taught Me Everything: Living Life One Episode at a Time. Hayashibara married a coworker on her 31st birthday in 1998 and gave birth to her daughter in 2004.
