Michael Beattie is a prolific Canadian-American actor and voice artist, best known for his extensive work across animation, video games, and live-action film. Born on September 7, 1956, in Toronto, Ontario, Beattie trained as a theatre actor at the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and began his career on stage with the National Arts Centre Theatre Company and the Stratford Festival. He transitioned into voice acting in the late 1980s, eventually moving to Los Angeles in 1989. Since 2012, he has become a staple of Illumination Entertainment's animated features, providing voices for various characters in the Despicable Me and Minions franchises—including the VNC Announcer and Walter Jr. in Minions (2015)—as well as roles in The Lorax, The Secret Life of Pets, The Grinch, and Minions: The Rise of Gru. Beyond his work in feature animation, Beattie is highly regarded in the gaming community for voicing iconic characters such as the scientist Mordin Solus in Mass Effect 2 and the cyborg Blade Wolf in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. His live-action credits include appearances in series like Murder One and Friday the 13th: The Series, as well as roles in Guy Ritchie's films Star and Swept Away.
