Michelle Garza Cervera (born September 27, 1987) is a celebrated Mexican film director and screenwriter, best known for her critically acclaimed feature film debut, the supernatural body horror movie Huesera: The Bone Woman (2022). A graduate of the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City who also obtained a master's degree in Film Direction from Goldsmiths, University of London, Cervera's work often explores complex themes of identity, social expectations, and motherhood, drawing on both folk horror and punk influences. Huesera: The Bone Woman tells the story of a pregnant woman who is terrorized by a sinister entity, a narrative that allowed Cervera to challenge the traditional "domestic box" for women. The film achieved significant international recognition, winning the Best New Narrative Director and the Nora Ephron Award at the Tribeca Festival, as well as the Best Ibero-American Film at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival. Following this success, she directed the 2025 reimagining of the psychological thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
