Natalie Portman (born Natalie Hershlag on June 9, 1981) is an Israeli-American actress, director, and producer who has achieved critical acclaim and global recognition throughout her prolific career. She began acting as a teenager, making her film debut in the action thriller Léon: The Professional (1994) and gaining international fame for her role as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, beginning in 1999. Demonstrating a dedication to both her craft and education, Portman earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Harvard University between filming her major motion pictures. Her work on the Mike Nichols film Closer (2004) earned her a Golden Globe and her first Academy Award nomination, but her career-defining moment came with the psychological thriller Black Swan (2010), for which she won the Academy Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA Award for Best Actress. She later earned another Oscar nomination for portraying Jacqueline Kennedy in Jackie (2016) and has also starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jane Foster in the Thor franchise.
