Paula Beer is a highly acclaimed and award-winning German actress, born on February 23, 1995, in Mainz, Germany. The daughter of a couple of artists, she began her acting career at a young age, making her celebrated film debut in Chris Kraus's 2010 film, The Poll Diaries. Her international breakthrough came in 2016 when she starred in François Ozon's Frantz, a performance that earned her the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Performer at the Venice Film Festival. Beer is particularly known for her successful collaborations with auteur Christian Petzold, having starred in his films Transit (2018), Undine (2020), Afire (Roter Himmel, 2023), and most recently, Miroirs No. 3 (2025), where she plays the lead role of Laura. Her role in Petzold's Undine brought her one of her most significant accolades: the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival, along with the European Film Award for Best Actress. She also had a starring role in Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's Academy Award-nominated film Never Look Away (2018) and the television series Bad Banks (2018).
