Philip Froissant
Philip Froissant is a rapidly rising German actor who gained international recognition for his leading role in the 2022 Netflix series, The Empress (original title: Die Kaiserin). Born in 1994 in Bad Tölz, Germany, to a German mother and a French father, Froissant initially pursued science-oriented studies before deciding to change careers and pursue acting. He studied Theater Studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, where he made his stage debut in 2017, and later completed his formal acting training at the prestigious Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich, graduating in 2022. He made his breakthrough on screen in the 2021 Netflix thriller film Black Island (Schwarze Insel), where he played the lead role of Jonas Hansen. His career accelerated significantly when he was cast as the male lead, Emperor Franz Joseph I, opposite Devrim Lingnau's Empress Elisabeth in The Empress, a role for which he won the German Television Award for Best Actor in 2023. Following this success, he took on the starring role of bicycle courier John Fontanelli, who inherits a trillion dollars, in the 2023 Paramount+ series One Trillion Dollars (Eine Billion Dollar). He also appeared in the 2025 Christian Petzold film Miroirs No. 3.
