Prabhu Deva Sundaram is a towering figure in Indian cinema, recognized as a versatile dance choreographer, actor, director, and producer who has worked predominantly in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films for over three decades. Born on April 3, 1973, in Mysore, Karnataka, he was inspired by his father, Mugur Sundar, a well-known choreographer, and was formally trained in Indian classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam, alongside Western styles. Early in his career, he earned the moniker "The Michael Jackson of India" for his electrifying, fast-paced, and fluid dance style, and he quickly established himself as a phenomenal choreographer, winning two National Film Awards for Best Choreography for the songs in Minsara Kanavu (1997) and Lakshya (2004). His iconic dance numbers like "Mukkabla," "Urvasi Urvasi," and "Rowdy Baby" have achieved pan-Indian and global popularity. Prabhu Deva successfully transitioned into a lead actor in the mid-1990s with films like Kadhalan (1994), before finding immense success as a director in the mid-2000s. He made his directorial debut with the Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (2005) and went on to helm a series of highly profitable commercial blockbusters in Hindi, including Wanted (2009), Rowdy Rathore (2012), and R... Rajkumar (2013), often remaking successful South Indian films.
