Rodger Bumpass

Rodger Bumpass (born November 20, 1951) is a prolific American actor and voice artist with a career spanning over four decades, instantly recognizable as one of the most iconic voices in modern animated comedy. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, he initially majored in radio–TV at Arkansas State University, and his early career included work at a local ABC affiliate and touring with the National Lampoon comedy road show That's Not Funny, That's Sick.Bumpass is most famous for his career-defining role as the perpetually grumpy, long-suffering, and artistically pretentious octopus Squidward Tentacles in the highly successful animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, a role he has played since the show's 1999 debut across all main series content, spin-offs, and feature films, including the upcoming The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (2025). The nasally, exasperated voice he created for Squidward has become a hallmark of the character's appeal. Beyond Bikini Bottom, Bumpass is highly regarded by animation fans for voicing the eccentric, brilliant, and protective father Professor Membrane in the cult favorite Nickelodeon series Invader ZIM, providing a sharp contrast to his best-known role. His extensive voice work also includes the character of The Chief in Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?, Doctor Light in various DC projects like Teen Titans, and numerous additional voices for major animated films from Pixar and Disney, such as A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, and Monsters, Inc..
