Rory McCann is a towering Scottish actor, born on April 24, 1969, in Glasgow, Scotland. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) tall, he initially worked in various trades, including as a bridge painter on the Forth Bridge, a carpenter, and a landscape gardener, before embarking on his acting career at the age of 29.McCann first gained wider recognition in a notable commercial for Scotts' Porridge Oats, where he appeared scantily clad in a kilt. His early acting roles included parts in the TV series The Book Group (2002-2003), for which he won a Scottish BAFTA, and the film Young Adam (2003). His Hollywood debut came in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004).He is perhaps most widely known for his formidable portrayal of Sandor "The Hound" Clegane in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones (2011-2019), a role that earned him international acclaim and a dedicated fanbase. Beyond Westeros, McCann's filmography includes a range of diverse characters in films such as Edgar Wright's comedy Hot Fuzz (2007), the Western Slow West (2015), xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017), and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), where he played the villain Jurgen the Brutal.More recently, he has lent his voice to Megatron in the animated series Transformers: EarthSpark (2022-2024), and appeared in Jackdaw (2023), The Damned (2024), and Knuckles (2024).
