Sandra Annette Bullock (born July 26, 1964) is an American actress and film producer known for her versatility across both comedy and drama, and has been one of Hollywood's highest-paid actresses. Born in Arlington, Virginia, to a German opera singer mother and an American voice coach father, Bullock spent much of her childhood in Nuremberg, Germany, becoming fluent in the language. She studied drama at East Carolina University before moving to New York to pursue acting. Her film debut came in 1987, but her breakthrough arrived in 1994 with the blockbuster action film Speed. She cemented her status as a leading actress with the romantic comedy While You Were Sleeping (1995) and later hits like Miss Congeniality (2000). Bullock won the Academy Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe Award for her starring role in the biographical drama The Blind Side (2009). She received a second Oscar nomination for the critically acclaimed science-fiction thriller Gravity (2013), which is her highest-grossing live-action film.
