Sanjeev Bhaskar OBE is a highly respected British actor, comedian, writer, and presenter celebrated for his versatile career spanning groundbreaking sketch comedy, popular sitcoms, and acclaimed dramatic roles. He first rose to prominence as a writer and performer in the hit BBC sketch comedy series Goodness Gracious Me (1997–2000), which satirized and explored British Asian culture. Following this success, he created and starred in the popular chat-show sitcom, The Kumars at No. 42 (2001–2005), playing the fictional host Sanjeev Kumar, which earned him a strong following.In recent years, he has demonstrated his significant range as a dramatic actor, most notably as the lead, Detective Inspector Sunny Khan, in the critically acclaimed ITV crime drama series, Unforgotten, a role he has played since 2015. His other notable dramatic TV roles include Dr. Prem Sharma in The Indian Doctor and a role in the Netflix series The Sandman. His film credits include Notting Hill, Yesterday (where he starred alongside his wife, actress and comedian Meera Syal), and the upcoming action-comedy sequel, The Family Plan 2 (2025), where he is set to play the character Vikram. Bhaskar was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005 for his services to drama and comedy and has served as the Chancellor of the University of Sussex.
