Shyaporn Theerakulstit
Shyaporn Theerakulstit, often known simply as Shy, is a versatile Thai-American actor, writer, and multimedia artist whose career spans traditional performance, academic satire, and digital content. A graduate of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, he has cultivated a unique niche as a "nerd about town," famously blending his acting training with a deep passion for pop culture and science. He is perhaps best known in the live performance circuit for his "fake science" lectures, such as his popular presentation on Godzilla’s biology delivered at the Smithsonian and various Nerd Nites, which showcase his ability to treat fantastical subjects with rigorous, comedic detail. In the 2025 film Song Sung Blue, Theerakulstit plays the supporting role of Somechai, the owner of a local Thai restaurant where Hugh Jackman's character, Mike, works as a karaoke DJ following a personal tragedy. Critics have highlighted his performance for its emotional resonance, particularly his "mournful karaoke duets" with Jackman that serve as a quiet, informal support system between two men navigating loss. This role adds to a growing television and film resume that includes appearances in hit series like The Flight Attendant, Girls5eva, and the 2018 film The Land of Steady Habits. Beyond his screen work, Theerakulstit is a prominent figure in the New York City theater and comedy scenes, having performed in everything from Off-Broadway parodies like KHAN!!! The Musical! to Shakespearean productions in unconventional spaces. His creative output also extends to writing and producing for Dark Horse Comics and hosting several podcasts and lecture series. An accomplished cosplayer and martial artist who studied traditional Shaolin, he has even won "Best in Show" at the New York Comic Con Cosplay Contest, further cementing his reputation as a multi-talented creator who moves seamlessly between high-brow performance and fan culture.
