Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (born February 16, 1990), professionally known as The Weeknd, is a highly acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor. Born in Toronto, Ontario, to Ethiopian immigrant parents, he rose to prominence for his distinctive falsetto vocals, unconventional musical production, and artistic reinventions, establishing himself as a highly influential artist of his generation.Tesfaye began his musical journey by anonymously uploading songs to YouTube in 2010. The following year, he co-founded the record label XO and released three critically acclaimed mixtapes – House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence – which garnered a significant following and praise for their dark R&B style and the enigmatic persona of The Weeknd.
