Tony Goldwyn
Tony Goldwyn, born Anthony Howard Goldwyn on May 20, 1960, in Los Angeles, California, is an American actor, director, producer, and singer. Coming from a prominent Hollywood family—his paternal grandparents were movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn and actress Frances Howard, and his maternal grandparents were playwright Sidney Howard and actress Clare Eames—Goldwyn initially sought a different path but found his calling in acting after a high school play. He pursued formal training at Hamilton College, Brandeis University (where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree), and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His career began in the mid-1980s with guest roles and a feature film debut in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986), but his breakthrough came with his memorable role as the villain Carl Bruner in the 1990 fantasy thriller Ghost. Goldwyn has since built a diverse filmography, including playing Harold Nixon in Nixon (1995), Neil Armstrong in the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon (1998), and voicing the titular character in Disney's animated Tarzan (1999). On television, he is widely recognized for his seven-season portrayal of President Fitzgerald Grant III in the hit ABC political drama Scandal, a role for which he also directed numerous episodes and earned a Peabody Award. Beyond acting, Goldwyn has directed four feature films: A Walk on the Moon, Someone Like You, The Last Kiss, and Conviction, and has also helmed episodes for various acclaimed television series such as Dexter, Grey's Anatomy, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He is married to production designer Jane Musky since 1987, and they have two daughters. Goldwyn is also actively involved in advocacy work, serving as a spokesperson for the AmeriCares Foundation and an ambassador for The Innocence Project. Most recently, he joined the cast of Law & Order as District Attorney Nicholas Baxter and appeared in Christopher Nolan's 2023 film Oppenheimer as Gordon Gray.
