Vivica A. Fox (born Vivica Anjanetta Fox on July 30, 1964) is a prominent American actress, producer, and television personality whose career spans film, television, and daytime soap operas. She launched her career as a dancer on Soul Train in the early 1980s before moving into acting with roles on daytime dramas like Days of Our Lives (1988) and Generations (1989–1992). Her film career broke into the mainstream in 1996 with two highly successful box-office hits: the sci-fi action film Independence Day, where she played Will Smith's fiancée Jasmine Dubrow, and the critically acclaimed crime thriller Set It Off, where she starred as the fiercely loyal bank robber Francesca “Frankie” Sutton. She continued her run of successful films in the late 90s and early 2000s, including Soul Food (1997), Booty Call (1997), and Why Do Fools Fall in Love (1998). Internationally, Fox is widely known for her visceral role as Vernita Green (code name "Copperhead")—one of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad assassins and the first target on The Bride's list—in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004). On television, she starred in and produced the Lifetime crime drama series Missing (2003–2006), for which she won an NAACP Image Award, and had a recurring role as Candace Mason on the hit Fox musical drama Empire. In recent years, she has become a prolific producer and star in a string of Lifetime TV movies, particularly the popular "The Wrong..." series, and made her directorial debut in 2023 with First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story.
