Yu Rongguang (Chinese: 于榮光; born August 30, 1958), also known as Ringo Yu, is a highly respected Chinese actor, martial artist, director, and producer. Born in Beijing, he has a strong foundation in martial arts and performing arts, having trained in Peking Opera at the Beijing Fenglei Peking Opera Troupe, specializing in Wusheng (martial roles).Yu began his film career in the late 1980s, primarily working in the Hong Kong film industry before expanding his work across mainland Chinese and international productions. He is best known to Western audiences for his roles in major martial arts and action films. His most iconic role is the titular masked hero, Dr. Yang / Iron Monkey, alongside Donnie Yen in the 1993 martial arts classic Iron Monkey. He is also recognized for playing the Imperial Guard in Shanghai Noon (2000) and the severe Master Li in the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid.Throughout his career, Yu has frequently collaborated with major stars like Jackie Chan, appearing in films such as New Police Story (2004) and The Myth (2005), and with Jet Li in My Father Is a Hero (1995). Beyond action cinema, his extensive filmography includes historical epics and dramas, notably his portrayal of Guan Yu in the 2010 television series Three Kingdoms and his roles in films like Mulan: Rise of a Warrior (2009) and Little Big Soldier (2010).
