Yul Vazquez

Yul Vazquez is a Cuban-American actor and musician with a long and diverse career in film, television, and theater. Born in Cuba on March 18, 1965, he and his family moved to the United States in 1971. Before his acting career took off, he was a lead guitarist for the rock bands Urgent and Diving for Pearls.Vazquez is a prolific actor with over 40 film credits. Some of his most notable film roles include Detective Mateo Reyes in Bad Boys II (2003), Julio in War of the Worlds (2005), and Captain Frank Castellano in Captain Phillips (2013). He also appeared in Runaway Bride (1999), American Gangster (2007), The A-Team (2010), and The Infiltrator (2016). His television work is equally extensive, with recurring roles on series like The Good Wife, Magic City, Russian Doll, and Severance, as well as guest appearances on popular shows like Seinfeld and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He is also a founding member and former co-artistic director of the LAByrinth Theater Company in New York City. Vazquez has been recognized for his stage work, earning a Tony Award nomination for his performance in The Motherfucker with the Hat. He has a number of recent and upcoming credits, including the 2025 film Tin Soldier and the television show Hotel Cocaine.
