The Lost Bus 2025
The Lost Bus (2025) is an American survival drama film directed by Paul Greengrass, who co-wrote the screenplay with Brad Ingelsby. The movie is based on a section of Lizzie Johnson's 2021 non-fiction book, Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, which recounts a heroic true story from the devastating 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California, one of the deadliest wildfires in the state's history. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as school bus driver Kevin McKay and America Ferrera as dedicated teacher Mary Ludwig. The plot focuses on their white-knuckle effort to navigate a school bus carrying 22 children to safety through the raging inferno, gridlocked traffic, and thick, suffocating smoke. The cast also features Yul Vazquez as Cal Fire Division Chief Ray Martinez and Ashlie Atkinson as bus depot dispatcher Ruby. Notably, McConaughey's real-life son, Levi McConaughey, and mother, Kay McCabe McConaughey, play his on-screen son and mother, respectively. The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, had a limited theatrical release, and is distributed globally by Apple Original Films through Apple TV+.
