Highly improbable but very enjoyable action movie.
The premise is that a plane hit by lightning makes an emergency landing on an island full of hostile rebels and the pilot must protect his passengers and somehow escape with them. It’s not the most realistic scenario but it does give Gerard Butler the opportunity to overcome tons of adversity. The direction is good, the action never falters and the action sequences are very well done. The acting is also very well done. Butler excels, Mike Colter is very good as a convict who helps him, and the rest of the cast is quite good. It is a very enjoyable adventure story and I definitely recommend it.

Not realistic, but good action movie
DEFINITELY NOT A REALISTIC MOVIE especially with lightning taking out avionics while engines are still running or 2 people dying while seatbelted in. Now if something happened causing the loss of the number engine that would explain the loss of avionics due to that engine generating power for that. However most planes are equipped with a ram air turbine that can be deployed to generate power as the plane moves through the air. It has been over 40 years since the last confirmed air crash due to lightning on a U.S. commercial airplane. On August 1963, a Pan Am flight out of Washington was struck by lightning on route to Philadelphia, resulting in an explosion in the fuel tank. 73 passengers and 8 crewmembers were killed. Since then, engineers have taken extreme precautions to ensure the safety of all aircraft fuel systems. Airplanes are now designed to allow lightning to pass harmlessly through the exterior of the aircraft (i.e. fuselage) without causing damage to the interior components, such as fuel tanks, avionics, flight controls, etc. Fuel lines and fuel tanks are protected to help withstand any potential lightning burns or sparks. The airlines having a emergency response armed team is also very unrealistic. HOWEVER if you just want a action movie that doesn’t make any sense then this is pretty good.

A Bit Slow, But Still a Solid Watch
Plane takes its time getting off the ground, but once the action kicks in, it delivers some tense and exciting moments. Gerard Butler brings his usual grit and determination, and the survival storyline keeps things interesting. While the pacing could be tighter, the mix of suspense, action, and heroics makes it worth watching if you enjoy grounded action thrillers. Not perfect, but definitely entertaining.
