Thanksgiving: A Feast of Fear
“Thanksgiving” is a horror movie that serves up a chilling tale, proving that even our most cherished traditions aren’t safe from the clutches of fear. This film takes the holiday season to a whole new level of fright, blending suspense, gore, and a side of cranberry sauce you won’t forget. The plot, while ominous, adds a twisted touch to the typical holiday cheer. The suspenseful scenes are expertly crafted, keeping you on the edge of your seat as the tension builds with each passing minute. The cast delivers standout performances, capturing the essence of terror in the most unexpected moments. “Thanksgiving” manages to turn the warmth of the holiday into an unsettling experience that will make you think twice before reaching for that second helping of pumpkin pie.For horror enthusiasts seeking a thrilling escape from the usual festivities, “Thanksgiving” is a cinematic treat that will leave you with a new appreciation for the horror genre during the holiday season. Just be prepared for some sleepless nights and a lingering sense of unease at the dinner table.

I almost want to call it awful, but I CAN’T!! It’s too much fun!!
Weak stomach? Hate horror films? Then, this ain’t for you. This is another rather unrealistic horror flick with ridonckulously over-the-top kill scenes, and a shallow, typical storyline that coincides so nicely with all the horror films in this caliber! Something of a revenge plot.. blah, blah, now EVERYONE must die, that is decidedly deserving of being killed by the killer.. blah, blah, lol. Wait til the end, there is definitely an attempt to perpetuate some sequels here… In that sense, “Halloween”, rip-off anyone?? Just slap-happy, FAKE, staged, overly gory, sometimes humorous, classic style, horror film, killin’ fun.

Turkey Day of Terror
Thanksgiving in January? Well if Christmas can be in July then why not? Actually I’m talking about that new horror movie that came out last November and I just watched it this January. For those who don’t know this movie is based on a fake trailer made for the Grindhouse Double Feature from way back in the 2000’s, a homage to old drive-in exploitation movies from the 60’s and 70’s both directed and produced by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. The Thanksgiving trailer was the only one I liked and was hoping for it to be adapted into a full length movie, but given that the Machete movies didn’t do so well I thought it was never gonna happen. But then we got a trailer for this movie last year and I got really excited for it to come out, even if it was being directed by Eli Roth. In case you haven’t read my review of the movie Clown, I’m not a fan of Eli Roth’s work, but given how much the trailer looked like it stayed true to the original and when I found out that he directed said original, I was willing to still watch it. So did it live up to the years of hype? Well…not really, but it was still an ok watch. First off I wasn’t into how modernized the movie was. I was really hoping that it kept the same feel of early 80’s slashers that the original trailer had, especially since the Machete movies still had that old exploitation feel to them despite taking place in the 2010’s. But instead the movie is set in present day with smartphones and TikTok and millennials. The acting was decent, but for some reason I had trouble understanding most of the dialogue…I don’t know if it was the accents of some characters or there was too much zoomer speak but it was hard to hear what was being said a lot of the time. The kills were pretty creative, and some of the scenes were adapted well from the original trailer, especially the decapitation of the guy in the Turkey costume…however the trampoline striptease scene was a total letdown from the original. The ending did remind me a lot of the My Bloody Valentine remake which isn’t a bad thing, but I was disappointed that the Ross Gellar-looking guy survived. Overall Thanksgiving 2023 (the movie not the holiday) is an ok slasher flick. It doesn’t live up to the glorious Grindhouse trailer, but at least we have a decent horror movie for Turkey Day when there’s so very few out there. Seriously, Easter has more horror movies than this holiday. By the way, for the Grindhouse Double Feature, I liked Planet Terror more than Death Proof.

Overpriced but fun bloody holiday horror
Terrific Steelbook, and I generally don’t like them. I hate the upcharge on them and hate the new trend of places only doing them while price gouging!!!!!This is an embrossed Steelbook which is a nice touch and looks good as well. The overall film is a great to-form slasher film with IMO deserving bunch of people who fall under the “deserves it” bucket. The money over people’s lives is on full display here and so is how ravenous society can be for material goods. Clearly inspiration has been taken from real world events tragic as they have been.Anyway, I love horror and it’s nice to have holiday themed ones and turkey day is lacking. This delivers on many levels and I hope we see a sequel. Also, it’s nice to see Roth deliver on a good one again though when I say good I mean good for this type of film. This has good and inventive scenes of carnage, typical annoying characters, who-done-it/blame thing, and bad decision making victims. It does lack t&a/doin-the-deed unfortunately. The 4k looks good too. My only big issue is the price, steels shouldn’t be the only option to get the dang film and prices on this format have already become too high.
