Some good action scenes in this story about people being kidnapped and hunted for sport.

As someone who has been into action movies for more than 7 decades I am always looking for new and unique action films. I had heard about this movie (The Hunt, with Betty Gilpin and Hillary Swank) but never saw it playing anywhere and could not get it from the movie section on my television. I decided to purchase the DVD on Amazon for a fair price and I was very surprised at how fast I received it, getting it a day after ordering it. I watched it that evening and did enjoy it; however, this similar type theme has been made into movies several times in the past. This action film had some interesting twists and turns and action scenes that I really liked. I love female warriors in movies and Crystal, (Betty Gilpin) had the look of a woman who knows something about guns, knives and Combatives; nevertheless, this movie did not have the amount of female type of fighting action of numerous other similar types of movies like (Kill Bill1, 11 with Ulma Thurman, GI Jane with Demi Moore, Underworld series with Kate Beckinsale, Proud Mary with Taraji P. Henson, Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolene, Wonder Woman with Gal Godot, and my all-time favorite Charlize Theron in Atomic Blond). This story is about a group of people called the Elites who like to hunt conservative Americans, who they call the “deplorables” for sport. In the group they have kidnapped this time includes an unexpected surprise when Crystal (Betty Gilpin), who has some kind of ex–military action experience, becomes the hunter destroying the group including a big fight scene with Hillary Swank at the end of the movie.I gave this move 4 stars because of the great but brief action scenes with Betty Gilpin; however, in my opinion there were fewer action scenes in this movie than most of the other female warrior hero films that I have seen in the past; nevertheless, it is still a fairly good action movie with some humorous moments.Rating: 4 Stars. Better than expected. See for yourself.

Normally I wouldn’t give a movie like this 5 stars. It’s not a 5 star movie. However, compared to the crap I’ve paid for in the last year to be entertained, this did a great job of making me laugh, giving me some gore, and giving me a character to root for. You won’t believe it, but there actually are some pretty decent exchanges in this that are worth seeing. Also the main character is worth the watch and may be the only reason for your money spent. I don’t think anyone else could have brought that character to life without overdoing it. I wish more center/right wing people would see this movie because it’s definitely not as politically biased as I imagined it would be based on other reviews and articles. I could have done without the modern verbiage which won’t hold up in the future, but other than that it was pretty fair to both sides. Except for one thing. Not all of the deplorables are uneducated or southern, and in fact where I come from most of them aren’t, and have a phrase that goes something like “If you’re not a liberal by 25, you have no heart. If you’re not a republican by 35, you have no brain”. I agree with that sentiment, and the writers of this movie just might have been thinking that very thing. All in all, it doesn’t matter which side you’re on, this is supposed to make you feel stupid regardless. Just sit back and enjoy the times we’re in and hopefully be a little more self aware after this.

A Thrilling and Darkly Hilarious Satire on Society

I recently watched “The Hunt” on Blu-ray and let me tell you, it was one wild ride. This film is not for the faint of heart, but for those who can handle a bit of gore and violence, it’s an absolute must-watch.The premise of the film is simple – a group of elites gather for a “hunt” where they capture and kill “deplorables” for sport. But things quickly take a turn when one of the “deplorables” fights back and the hunt becomes a battle for survival. What makes “The Hunt” so brilliant is its biting social commentary. The film takes aim at both sides of the political spectrum, skewering everything from cancel culture to gun control to conspiracy theories. But despite its dark subject matter, “The Hunt” is also incredibly funny, with clever one-liners and moments of absurdity that will have you laughing out loud. The performances in the film are top-notch, with standout turns from Betty Gilpin and Hilary Swank. The action is intense and visceral, with plenty of blood and gore to satisfy horror fans. And the Blu-ray transfer is top-quality, with stunning visuals and crisp audio that really bring the film to life.Overall, if you’re looking for a smart, thrilling, and darkly hilarious satire on society, “The Hunt” is a must-watch. It’s not for the faint of heart, but for those who can handle a bit of gore and violence, it’s one of the best films of its kind in recent memory. Highly recommended.

not quite the movie I expected

Though the fight scene at the end struck me as unnecessary and long, the rest of this movie was quite entertaining! I became interested when I read an article that explained Universal was releasing a movie in which liberals hunted conservatives, and nobody in the comments section sounded surprised. However, this movie surprised me, because it’s told from the perspective of the conservatives, with (for once) the liberals coming across as irrational extremists. Hollywood has never done that before, so this is a very unique movie. Much of it is quite comical, such as the lengths to which the leftists go to hunt conservatives without, themselves, using any guns. In fact, they arm the conservatives! One scene showed a scenario in which a leftist’s career is destroyed because of a publicized discovery that her political views don’t align with those around her, which drives her to become a violent extremist. This showed the dangers of over-emotional mob mentality, and even her boss explains he must fire her due to “optics”. It’s one of those movies that seems to tell a different story each time you watch it, as you catch new things each time which bring new meaning. Not sure if I should include any spoilers but; yes, despite her claims, the rest of the movie makes it pretty obvious that the leftists did indeed get the right Crystal. Also, Don truly was one of the leftist hunters.

An okay film that doesn’t know its own thesis

(mild spoilers) The short run time is definitely for the best in this politically charged horror-comedy. It starts out strong with some good jokes and an interesting subversion by killing off its most recognizable faces early on. You feel the chaos when each possible narrator from whose lens we feel we may be viewing the events are killed off in rapid succession until ultimately landing on Gilpin’s strongly acted Crystal. Unfortunately, her character’s full introduction where the movie stalls, and it never really finds its footing again. There are a few good jokes sprinkled in throughout the back half of the film, but the plot feels messy and obstacles for Gilpin’s Crystal seem to topple too easily. If the film is trying to make a statement about holding too tightly to one’s political identity rather than actual beliefs, it’s never fully realized, and it ends up suffering because of this. Still, it’s some good mindless fun if you don’t try to read too much into it.

Fun action horror thriller comedy that probably wont’ age well.

The Hunt (2020), an American action horror thriller comedy. A movie where basically rich liberal people hunt conservative poor and middle classed people for sport, with the filmmakers along the way satirizing modern day politics, conspiracy theorists, cancel culture, rich liberal elite arrogance, conservative anti-intellectualism, NPR, gun culture, and culture war fights. After an opening where in a text group chat a group of close friends talk about hunting “deplorables” for sport, the film basically goes to just that very thing, with a bunch of people coming to in the woods and a field in some unknown location, having been transported there unconscious by the same group of friends in the group chat. They come to with gags in their mouth and in short order find a crate with weapons. They start arming themselves and they have barely finished doing this when they start getting picked off one by one, either by being shot from a bunker, or by other quite graphic, bloody means.Survivors of the group try to escape, and one of the “deplorables,” Crystal May Creasey played by Betty Gilpin, starts to fight back, hunting the hunters. Unlike pretty much everyone else among the deplorables, she seems ruthless, competent, and quite skilled. The hunters have set other traps for the deplorables and all is not as it appears, a combination of trying to kill the deplorables by getting them to let their guard down, wanting to teach them “a lesson” as to why they are deplorable, and also basically just to sadistically mess with them. I liked this element, as you couldn’t always be sure if a possible ally, fellow deplorable, or something useful was really what they or it appeared, and also it played into the satirical parts of the film such as satire of conspiracy theorists.Strong Ready or Not (2019) vibes, though I think Ready or Not is the superior film. It is amazingly violent, quite graphic really, almost cartoonishly so at times. Though it is a horror, the tone stays pretty light most of the film, as while everyone is in a horror movie, it is not one where people are terrified or screaming all the time and the film keeps veering into scenes of parodying either the right or the left. Hilary Swank as Athena Stone, the main bad guy among the elite, could have been in the movie more than she was, but what we get is very effective. I really liked Betty Gilpin’s character, who was interesting and believable. Several of the deplorables and the elite were pretty thin stereotypes of those on the right and those on the left respectively and some of the satirical elements were little better than brief lip service scenes, such a very brief exchange on cultural appropriation. A few times if the movie had stayed a bit longer with some of the things they were satirizing it might have been more effective.I appreciated the movie the most as an action thriller, as there are some good action scenes. I think some of the comedy and satirical elements fell a little flat for me, maybe even most of it. There was one element I really didn’t get as far as being comedy, that the deplorables believe in “Manorgate,” the exposure of the group chat from the beginning of the film, that a secret group of elites hunts conservative people for sport, something most of society doesn’t believe…only the deplorables were right? They are being hunted for sport! The elites are furious and hate the Manorgate scandal/conspiracy theory, but they are hunting people for sport! Is this supposed to validate or mock far right conspiracy theories?Good pacing, fun movie, though I don’t think it will probably age well or become the classic I think Ready or Not already is. I did recognize things that should be mocked on both the right and the left, but some things came off as “this is what one group thinks of the other group and we are making fun of them for them, but we don’t really believe or get their point.” I don’t recall laughing out loud at any point in the movie, but it was still fun to watch.

best movie i keep watching it

This movie is really great. If you hate this movie it is probably because you are a knee-jerk liberal elite whose beliefs are so brittle and insecure that any challenge rocks you to the core and your belief structures fall apart when the wind blows a little bit. The movie makes fun of liberal elites, but also makes fun of trumpanzee conservatives. It was just considered a fun roll in the hay by the writer, but the writer was one of the Lost writers and what I believe is that when he goes up to the plate he just can’t help but swing for the fences. There is a lot of deep symbolism to the movie.Spoilers coming. The movie is a reworking of the Animal Farm plot, with many of the characters renamed to match characters in the story. It is a political fable like Animal Farm, but superimposed on the original story is a new fable that you get to most of the way through. It is farcical and extremely funny. The action is really not bad. I would say the underlying theme in a nutshell is that the characters in it are playing at the Animal Farm dynamics between left and right, but that the strength of character of the American spirit is undiminished by the ridiculous extremes of the left and the right, and survives the challenges of the left and right to emerge victorious at the end as America survives its brushes with extreme social liberalism and also the fascism of the right. To be honest Orwell needed to be reworked, he portrayed authoritarianism in 1984 and portrayed the vicious betrayals from the communists in Animal Farm, but the dynamics of Animal Farm just transfer poorly to our current time when in reality we have gone beyond the old political beliefs of straight communism or the 1950s style democracy in which Orwell wrote. Now we have a woke democracy with a vaccinated anti-woke republican proto-fascist movement, and it is unclear exactly how things are going to play out. This movie is an optimistic argument that what will survive this difficult situation is the strength of American character. I get that perhaps this was not all explicitly contemplated by the writers but I believe at a subconscious level this movie supports my theory.Hope you like my analysis of this movie. The movie is really great, and Betty Gilpin is frickin awesome. Best female action hero, totally funny, AWESOME acting, and simply gorgeous.

One of my new favorite movies.

Boondock Saints is my absolute favorite if that gives you a bar to judge my movie taste on or whatever. This movie is freaking fantastic! Betty Gilpin is outstanding. I cannot tell you how much I love her facial expressions, and how abnormal she is in this movie. While still being beautiful she’s not like every other female heroine in every other bloody movie where she has to be hot all the time, hair has to be perfect, and can’t make awkward facial expressions. No, they must look beautiful and bustful at all times. She blows all of them out of the water! she is a real person, doing real things to defend herself. Also what I love about this movie is that both sides believe that they are so right that they’re not willing to listen to the truth. Both of them, it’s not just one sided it’s both sides. People watching this movie that are on one extreme side or the other are probably going to hate it because they also can’t see any other point of view but their own. Betty gilpin’s character is totally in the middle. People are trying to kill her, she doesn’t care why, or what their beliefs are or anything like that. They’re just trying to kill her so she’s just defending herself. She doesn’t care what they believe in, she doesn’t care what the other people that are being hunted believe in either, she just wants to go home. And I think that is absolutely fantastic. He’s smart, funny, calm and collected. Yes she pretty much only cares about herself, but in a situation like that, that might be the smartest thing to do. Everybody always thinks you’re better in numbers and maybe you are but most movies I’ve seen and most cataclysmic situations that I have actually been in, you are better off on your own people turn on each other too fast. I like to help the ones that truly need it and then disappear. I don’t like to be known that I’m helping so I often wait in the shadows and listen and if someone needs something in particular I go get it and I drop it off and I leave. I don’t need thanks it’s truly the only humanized thing to do. That is just my opinion from my experience. It is been my experience that you just can’t trust people and that is how Betty gilpin’s character operates throughout this movie she keeps her mouth shut and pays attention. In fact I think she’s my new hero. I know this movie is politically charged and that is probably why it got pulled but our whole nation is politically charged I think it’s good to have a little humor in it. This movie gives you that. You just have to be open for it. All in all it’s a great movie I’ve watched it several times and I still have an inclination to watch it again. Just in case I missed something or just because I enjoy watching it.Spoiler alert!!!!A lot of people were very confused by whether she was the real Justice4y’all and I think at the end of the movie it makes it very clear that she is not Justice4y’all. When Althena is reading through her life story she doesn’t mention anything about her military service and I think that would be a big thing in her record, and why would Betty gilpin’s character lie when they’re both about to die? She’s also educated which the other Crystal doesn’t sound like she would be educated at all. She’s also very polite, in every situation she acts completely different from the other people that are being hunted. However again we have someone who is so caught up in their beliefs that they don’t want to hear the truth. Betty gilpin’s character accepts this and decides well if you’re not going to listen to reason then let’s fight. A lot of people were also confused about whether Don was a turncoat or not but I also don’t think he was one of the people that were trying to kill them. I mean I know they went through elaborate schemes to make everyone believe that they were in Arkansas, but the truth is every time she killed someone he freaked out hardcore. They only picked 11 and when you look at the pictures on the wall in Athena’s house there are only 11. However, they didn’t show double machine gun guy, and they didn’t show Gaaarrrryyy. Which I imagine were the last two on the wall so that does leave some doubt for Don. I just didn’t think that he showed the intelligence or fortitude to help pull something like this off. Plus he tried to warn the guy about the Box saying it was a trap. There’s just little things along the way that make me think that he was one of the hunted and not the Hunter, but again this is just my opinion.
